A Transformative Journey: The 7th National Youth Assembly

The 7th National Youth Assembly unfolded as a dynamic convergence of purpose, vision, and collaboration, commencing with an inspiring Worship Service led by Ms. Ivory Manio, Director for College Work at the YMCA of Manila. This reflective opening set the tone for a deeply engaging program designed to empower young leaders. National President Atty. Elmer C. Balbin’s welcome remarks underscored the assembly’s mission to cultivate the next generation of leaders by advancing mental, spiritual, and physical well-being. His call to action emphasized the YMCA’s unwavering commitment to shaping purposeful individuals through transformative education and collaboration.

The formal opening by Youth Affairs Committee Chair Atty. Andrei Christopher Arbas further highlighted the assembly’s significance as a platform for strategic empowerment. He articulated the assembly’s vision as not merely a gathering but a catalyst for self-discovery, growth, and actionable leadership.

The keynote address by Atty. Patrixia Sherly D. Santos, an accomplished humanitarian and environmental lawyer, resonated deeply with the assembly’s theme, “YMCA Philippines Advancing Vision 2030 Through Education and Collaboration.” Drawing from her journey with YMCA Albay, Atty. Santos expounded on the pivotal “4 A’s” of Awareness, Appreciation, Advocacy, and Application. She challenged participants to align personal growth with collective action, advocating for an intentional pursuit of purpose-driven lives and the courage to foster meaningful change. Her insights, rooted in both reflection and resilience, offered a profound narrative of leadership, self-accountability, and the transformative power of collaboration.

Interactive sessions further deepened the assembly’s impact. A “getting to know” and perspective-setting activity, led by Ms. Melody Quintanilla of YMCA Makati, created opportunities for authentic connections among participants, fostering a shared vision. The exploration of the YMCA Philippines Youth Network (YPYN) by Ms. Hanniel Saus illuminated its structural competencies and mission, reinforcing its role as a backbone for youth empowerment within the movement.

In the afternoon, the assembly transitioned to a vibrant showcase of creativity and collaboration. The presentation of Promotional Videos highlighted the storytelling and advocacy prowess of seven local YMCAs, with entries from YMCA of San Pablo, Manila, Albay, Davao, Quezon City, Makati, and Los Baños. Guided discussions during the Co-Lab sessions centered on the 4 Pillars of Vision 2030 Community Well-Being, Meaningful Work, Sustainable Planet, and Just World.

Participants collaboratively developed actionable proposals addressing real-world challenges, presenting their insights in a plenary session that underscored the transformative potential of collective thought and vision.

The assembly culminated in a heartfelt expression of gratitude and optimism. Participants left with renewed inspiration, armed with actionable insights and a deeper understanding of their role in advancing the YMCA’s mission. The 7th National Youth Assembly stood as a beacon of hope and empowerment, reaffirming the YMCA’s dedication to nurturing youth as catalysts for meaningful change and stewards of a sustainable future.
