OUR STORY
The Young Men’s Christian Association was first brought to the Philippines during the Spanish-American war in 1898 serving the needs of American Military Service Men.
The initial civilian YMCA in Manila was organized on June 28, 1904 by the Foreign Department of the International Committee to serve Americans working in the government, businessmen and professionals.
Dr. John Raleigh Mott, Senior Executive of the Foreign Department of YMCA, organized and incorporated the YMCA of Manila on July 06, 1907. He worked tirelessly around the world for the displaced and prisoners of war during two world wars. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in leading young people of the world.
The YMCA expansion program resulted in the founding of the YMCA of the Philippines on November 10, 1911. Since then other YMCA branches were opened outside Manila to the neighboring cities and provinces in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao regions.
