General Secretary: YMCA of San Pablo City

A seventeen year old Senior High School Student, Anthony Chang had initiated a personal project called YMCA Rainwater Filtration System in YMCA of San Pablo. Joining the Batch 9 of YMCA San Pablo-YMCA Taichung Taiwan International Service Camp on July 17-27, 2023 and with his active participation, along the way, being a very sensitive and responsible young guy, he noticed the scarcity of water supply in the YMCA – became aware of the problem and finally felt the intense need for other water source so as not to complicate.

While in Taiwan and bringing with him highlights of his experiences, observations and accomplishments from the service trip, he never stop keeping YMCA San Pablo and it’s people in his thoughts. And recently, July 1, 2024, he decided to come back to San Pablo with his sister Natasha, bringing-in his ideas and financial resources to establish a Rainwater Filtration System in the Y. What a great idea! This is a young mind’s initiative to help the Y and our community addressing water scarcity.

The project was successfully completed with YMCA President Engr. Felipe M. Valenzuela III’s guidance and supervision. YMCA San Pablo expresses their gratefulness and deepest appreciation to Anthony Chang and his family and his mentor professor for making this YMCA Rainwater Filtration System Project possible, and for undoubtedly lasting relationship built along with us.

What is Rainwater Filtration System and its importance?

This Rainwater Filtration System is consists of three (3) filters that convert rainwater to Potable water.

1. Water saver – Captures and reserves natural water from rain and other natural source of water.
2. Earth/Environment helpful – Natural water was saved and filtrated to be utilize for human basic
household chores means non usage of tap water. This can help in our advocacy to mitigate
Climate Change.
3. Security for clean water – Multi layer devices cleanse water (dirts and sediments) and make it
usable for many purposes.
4. Economy and Expandability – it is cheaper to built a basic filtration system compare to modern
concrete reservoir of steel tank. The system can be constructed to various location as long as there
is a direct source of natural water to tap on. Can help benefit a household compound or even a
community!
